A new meat offering . . . —See Leviticus 23:16.

After your weeks be out.—Hebrew, in your weeks—i.e., at the expiration of a week of weeks from the morrow after the chief day of the feast of the Passover.

Numbers 28:26. Also in the day of the first-fruits — In the feast of pentecost, Acts 2:1. The weeks — The seven weeks which you are to number from the passover. This fifth stated and national sacrifice was also annual, namely, at the harvest festival, when the first-fruits of corn were to be offered up, Exodus 23:16. This festival was two-fold; first, the barley- harvest first-fruits, beginning at the passover; and then, at seven weeks’ end, the wheat-harvest festival, called the feast of weeks, which is here intended. When ye bring a new meat or bread-offering — That is, two loaves made of the first wheat flour, as the first-fruits of the said wheat- harvest.

28:16-31 By the sacrifices enjoined in this chapter, we are reminded of the continued power of the sacrifice of Christ, and of our continual need to depend thereon. No hurrying employments, or perilous situations, or prosperous circumstances, should cause slackness in our religious exercises; but should rather stir us up to greater diligence in seeking help from, or giving thanks to the Lord. And all is to be accompanied with repentance, faith is the Lord Jesus, and love to him, and to produce true holiness in our conduct towards all men; otherwise God will abhor our most solemn services and abundant devotions. And Christ is able to supply the wants of every day, every week, every month, every year, every ordinance, every case.The festival offering at the season of first-fruits was to be offered on one day only; and was the same with that of the new moon and Passover. It nearly though not entirely accords with the sacrificial offering prescribed in Leviticus 23:18 ff. 26, 27. in the day of the first-fruits … offer the burnt offering—A new sacrifice is here ordered for the celebration of this festival, in addition to the other offering, which was to accompany the first-fruits (Le 23:18). Your weeks, i.e. the seven weeks which you are to number from the passover, Leviticus 23:15 Heb. in the weeks, in being put for after, as it is Isaiah 20:1 Luke 9:36 11:37.

Also in the day of the firstfruits,.... When the firstfruits of the wheat harvest were brought unto the Lord, which was the day of Pentecost, fifty days from the sheaf of the wave offering being brought:

when ye bring a new meat offering unto the Lord; that is, a meat offering made of the new corn, which were two wave loaves of two tenth deals of fine flour, baked with leaven, Leviticus 23:15.

after your weeks be out; the seven weeks from the passover to Pentecost, even seven complete sabbaths or weeks, Leviticus 23:15.

ye shall have an holy convocation, ye shall do no servile work; see Leviticus 23:21.

Also in the day of the firstfruits, when ye bring a new meat offering unto the LORD, after your {g} weeks be out, ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work:

(g) In counting seven weeks from the Passover to Whit Sunday, as in Le 23:15.
