(14) House of God.—Kings, “house of the Lord.” See 1Kings 8:11, and 2Chronicles 7:2, infra.

Stand to minister.Take their places, or approach to minister (2Chronicles 6:12). The Syriac adds here, “Ended is the first half of the Chronicles.” Before 2 Chronicles 6 it writes, “The second half of the Book of Chronicles.”

5:11-14 God took possession of the temple; he filled it with a cloud. Thus he signified his acceptance of this temple, to be the same to him that the tabernacle of Moses was, and assured his people that he would be the same in it. Would we have God dwell in our hearts, we must leave room for him; every thing else must give way. The Word was made flesh; and when he comes to his temple, like a refiner's fire, who may abide the day of his coming? May he prepare us for that day.Even the house of the Lord - Or, according to another reading (Septuagint), which removes the superfluousness of these words - "The house was filled with a cloud of the glory of the Lord." 13. the house was filled with a cloud—(See on [418]1Ki 8:10). No text from Poole on this verse.

See Chapter Introduction So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God.
